Explanation of results
The GP Patient survey results website allows you to further analyse results using the following data analysis tools:
- Practice results
- PCT results
- Profile analysis
- Cross tabulation
- Trend analysis
All of these data are available weighted or unweighted. The weighted data should be used as standard so please ensure that you are aware of which of these data you are viewing.
Weights have been applied to adjust the data to account for potential age and gender differences between the profile of all eligible patients in a practice and the patients who actually complete a questionnaire. However, please note that results from the first wave of the 2011-2012 survey onwards, weighting also takes into account neighbourhood statistics such as levels of deprivation in order to improve reliability of findings further.
For further information about the weights, please see the further information section.
For each of the data analysis tools available on the site the data is presented in a chart or data table format.
Explanations of these data formats have been included below:
1) Charted data - available via the PCT results and Profile Analysis tools:
The charted data shows the percentage results for your chosen question.
The X axis (going across the page) shows the answer categories available for that question.
The Y axis (going up the page) shows the percentage scale from 0% to 100%.
All charts include the exact question wording and a description of those who responded (‘Base’).
2) Data table - available via the PCT results, Profile Analysis, Trend Analysis and Cross Tabulation tools:
The data table shows the percentage results for your chosen question (%), as well as the number of respondents who answered the question (N).
The table includes all of the answer categories for that question (first column).
A description of those who responded (‘Base’) is shown above the table.
Please note - where a response code has less than 10 respondents the data is suppressed for data protection issues. When this occurs a ‘*’ will appear where the data has been suppressed.
Please note - data presented throughout this website is presented as weighted data as the default. However, options are available to produce unweighted data in each of the analysis modules. Please refer to the user and analysis guides for further information.
